What we think has worked and what hasn’t.
The Young and the Bishop
HIT: Sharon Case. Again. Y&R featured Sharon Case this week, and while the subject matter was extremely dark and difficult to handle, Case pulled off everything the show asked of her.
MISS: The Quadrangle is Sally, Adam, Chelsea, and Billy. This foursome is starting to feel Reel imitating True. Remember those before Good morning America anchors that began an offset relationship? Then, their significant others bonded incredibly on the other side of the breakups – and they got together. Is that what is going on here? Because who could hurt Adam (Mark Grossman) more than Sally (Courtney Hope) did when she reunited with her brother? Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson).
HIT: The Revenge Club. Having said what we said about Sally and Billy, we really enjoyed the friendship between Sally and Audra (Zuleyka Silver) as they talked about getting revenge and getting revenge for sex. However, this revenge club needs one more woman, and we think Lily (Christel Khalil) should join their unofficial club. She’s doing fine with the payback right now, as long as it doesn’t backfire on her big time (which it will).
HIT: Adam and Faith. Adam always feels like an island, and no one is happy to see him when they run into the park, at Crimson Lights, or anywhere. Although his conversation with Faith (Reylynn Caster) started out like that, in the end, they had a very nice moment where he listened to her concerns about Sharon and gave her good advice.
MISS: Characters getting too much POV. We never thought we’d say this, but on Y&R, there are a few characters that get too much POV. We hear every single thought that comes to their brains. Three of the biggest examples of this are Billy, Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan), and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford). Billy and Chelsea, especially. We get that they are struggling, but we don’t need to hear about their issues 24/7. Billy’s podcast stage still inspires us.

Days of Our Lives
HIT: Melinda joins Paulina and Ava. Since Connie (Julie Dove) murdered Li Shen (Remington Hoffman) and Sloan (Jessica Serfaty) left home, we’re worried if Melinda (Tina Huang) would go away. However, we weren’t so worried when Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) hired her at DiMera. After her rescue from DiMera’s secret room, it was nice when Paulina (Jackée Harry) asked Melinda out for lunch, and Ava (Tamara Braun) showed that she cared about her presence. I liked that.
MISS: Entire episodes dedicated to Body & Soul. We have come to understand that we prefer smaller doses of it Body & Soul reboot. On Tuesday, September 24, the behind-the-scenes drama of the soap within the soap began with the full episode. I hope this doesn’t happen too often in the future.
HIT: Fiona meets Sophia. While Fiona (Serena Scott Thomas) and Sophia (Madelyn Kientz) are spreading chaos in their own lives, it was nice to see them share a little peace, cheesecake and conversation at The Bistro. It was a great way to get more perspective from these two.
MISS: Hypocritical conversations. As much as we understand why EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) hates Eric (Greg Vaughan) and will use any ammunition to stick it to him, his conversations often give off a hypocritical vibe. He’s done worse, but he doesn’t hesitate to nail Eric for killing Daniel (Shawn Christian). Also, Holly (Ashley Puzemis) bonds with EJ and Eric teases the same vibes, especially since she had a drug overdose. At least find out the circumstances behind what Eric did, Holly!

General Hospital
OUT JURY: Jason and Anna. While we’re still processing this huge moment between Jason (Steve Burton) and Anna (Finola Hughes), we can definitely say that Jason and Anna weren’t meeting on our bingo card. However, due to a casual poll of the Soap Hub writing staff, this one has been called HIT until further notice. We reserve judgment. So, the jury remains out.
HIT: Martin Gray returns. During the extended hiatus from this character, Martin Gray (Michael E. Knight) got a new look, lost the accent, and gained a “don’t give a damn” attitude. He doesn’t seem afraid of Sonny (Maurice Benard). He tells Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) how it is and has a great strategy session with Molly (Kristen Vaganos). And did you see what he did to Lucy (Lynn Herring)? Wow, that was brutal, but we loved it. Welcome back, Michael E. Knight!
HIT: Jordan and Alexis’ Grandma convo. Jordan (Tanisha Harper) visited Alexis at Pentonville, where the deputy mayor asked the solicitor if she would have helped Molly raise TJ’s (Tajh Bellow) baby. Through all of this alternate history, we haven’t heard much from Jordan and Alexis’ POV. So, it was great to hear them talk about how sad they weren’t going to be old ladies with Baby Irene. They also talked about how they will always love each other’s children even if they separate. The conversation was realistic, grounded, and overdue.
MISS: Ned vs. Michael and Drew. We didn’t miss the ELQ arguments between Ned (Wally Kurth), Michael (Chad Duell), and Drew (Cameron Mathison). It was understandable that it was going to happen because Valentine (James Patrick) is a fugitive. And yes, Ned helped create a mess when he hitched his wagon to Valentine, but he had his reasons. However, it was strange that Michael and Drew insist that Ned should not be CEO even though they couldn’t find a reason. Why is Michael more deserving of that title? In addition, the audience knows Michael covered up for Sonny. That alone should disqualify him.
MISS and HIT: Willow and Drew angst. Unfortunately, we’re not feeling all this talk about Drew and Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) staying away from each other. And we’re not sure why Drew is always looking for Willow. It’s time for the secret to come out so we can move forward. Thankfully, James (Gary James Fuller) started that early train by spilling the tea about Ned’s secret kiss!
HIT and MISS: The Sonny, Carly, Brennan, and Natalia combo. Carly (Laura Wright) and Brennan (Charles Mesure) are the potential hit pairing. As a couple, they are interesting, and we want to see how their relationship develops. Not so much with Natalia (Eva LaRue) and Sonny.
HIT: Cody and Tracy. We felt their connection on Friday, in particular. Tracy (Jane Elliot), once again, had to apologize to Cody (Josh Kelly) for overreacting. But it was all because she didn’t want to lose a friendship or another person in her life. That was the first time we really felt their friendship. It was nice.

The Bold and the Beautiful
HIT: Hope and Carter. Our desire for Dóchas (Annika Noelle) to move on from Finn (Tanner Novlan) may happen sooner than we thought. Hope and Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) spent some quality time together, and you know what? We like what little we’ve seen so far. We are motivated.
MISS: Taylor tells Li that she doesn’t want her family to know about her heart failure. Forget that it was towards the end of last year that B&B managed to get its staff to spend a ton of time on Eric Forrester (John McCook) dying of a mysterious disease. Now we head to Taylor (Rebeccas Budig) who is dying of a heart failure arc. Hopefully the show will mix things up a bit. But, already, she doesn’t want any of her family to know about her diagnosis. Li (Naomi Matsuda) knows, and it looks like Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) will. Let’s pray now that he has seen her fall apart, that everyone finds out what Taylor is doing.
HIT and MISS: Brooke and Taylor want to be friends again. We have been down this road. Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Taylor have tried to be friends, but it doesn’t work. However, that they are self-aware enough to want to put their world and history aside—well, we’re on board. However, we have low expectations since, at some point, their feelings for Ridge will ruin everything.

HIT: Crew Morrow as Will Spencer. We’re giving Crew Morrow the green light because 1) His chemistry with his TV parents is great. Will is realistic about Bill (Don Diamont) and Katie (Heather Tom) getting back together. Certainly, if it happens, he would be happy. But does he need it and will he play Parent Trap to do it? No. And 2) It looks like the show will have more of a rivalry between Will and RJ (Joshua Hoffman). The scene we got this week with Will bringing up Luna (Lisa Yamada) the Lunatic was so good. RJ needs competition. It is too comfortable.
